Government Boosts Funding for Sustainable Development of Natural Rubber Sector
The government has taken significant steps to enhance the sustainable and inclusive development of the natural rubber sector by increasing funding by 23% to Rs 708.7 crore for the next two financial years. Administered by the Rubber Board, this scheme aims to promote new planting and replanting of old plantations, thereby addressing the shortfall in local rubber production. With a focus on both traditional and non-traditional regions, the initiative seeks to increase rubber cultivation area and improve productivity. Additionally, measures such as providing planting materials, assistance for SC growers, and promoting Rubber Producers Societies (RPS) are part of the comprehensive strategy to boost the rubber industry. Moreover, proposed initiatives include the establishment of nodal centers for rubber training and support for research activities. These efforts reflect the government's commitment to fostering self-sufficiency and resilience in the natural rubber sector while creating opportunities for sustainable growth.
