Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Launch BHARATPOL Portal to Enhance International Police Cooperation

On January 7, 2025, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, will launch the BHARATPOL portal in New Delhi at Bharat Mandapam. Developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), this portal is designed to enhance law enforcement agencies’ capabilities in India by enabling real-time information sharing for faster access to international police assistance.

Government’s Commitment to Strengthening Law Enforcement

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the central government has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen India’s law enforcement agencies. The BHARATPOL portal is a significant step in this direction, aimed at improving international cooperation in criminal matters.

Role of CBI and INTERPOL

The CBI, serving as the National Central Bureau (NCB-New Delhi) for INTERPOL in India, plays a pivotal role in facilitating international cooperation on criminal matters. It works closely with law enforcement agencies at the central, state, and union territory levels, collaborating through INTERPOL Liaison Officers (ILOs) and Unit Officers (UOs) at the police department level. Currently, communication among these stakeholders relies on traditional methods such as letters, emails, and faxes.

Need for the BHARATPOL Portal

The rise of transnational crimes such as cyber-crime, financial crimes, online radicalization, organized crimes, drug trafficking, and human trafficking has highlighted the need for rapid international assistance in criminal investigations. The BHARATPOL portal addresses this challenge by providing a common platform for all stakeholders, facilitating faster and more efficient processing of requests for international assistance.

Features and Benefits of the BHARATPOL Portal

The portal will streamline the processing of requests for international assistance through INTERPOL, including the issuance of Red Notices and other colour-coded INTERPOL notices. This transformative tool will significantly enhance the efficiency of field-level police officers in tackling crimes and security challenges, strengthening India’s efforts to combat transnational crimes.

Awards and Recognition

During the event, Shri Amit Shah will also present Police Medals to 35 CBI officers and officials who have been awarded the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation.

Event Attendees

The event will be attended by several dignitaries and senior officers from various ministries and departments, including the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, DoPT, Central Vigilance Commission, and Central Police Organisations.
