In a significant development, Ajit Agarkar has been appointed as the chairman of the Senior Men’s Cricket Selection Committee by the Board of Control of Cricket (BCCI). The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape, interviewed multiple candidates for the position, ultimately reaching a unanimous decision to appoint Agarkar as the chairman.
The reconstituted Senior Men’s Selection Committee now consists of Ajit Agarkar as the Chairperson, along with Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, and Sridharan Sharath. Agarkar’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture for Team India, as they recover from their defeat in the World Test Championship Finals and focus on their preparations for the ICC World Cup 2023 scheduled for October-November.
Ajit Agarkar, a former all-rounder for the Indian cricket team, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He represented the country in 26 Test matches, 191 ODIs, and four T20Is, while also leaving a mark in domestic cricket with 110 first-class, 270 List A, and 62 T20 matches. As a former fast bowler, Agarkar played a pivotal role in India’s triumph in the inaugural T20 World Cup held in South Africa in 2007.
