In a concerted effort to engage with the global Indian diaspora youth, Akashvani, the prominent national public radio broadcaster of India, orchestrated a distinctive event in New Delhi on August 28th. This event was a pivotal component of the Know India Programme (KIP), an initiative steered by the Ministry of External Affairs. The occasion served as a convergence point for approximately 55 students hailing from diverse corners of the world, all belonging to the Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) community.

Chandranie Sukhdeo, a student representing Guyana, effusively expressed her gratitude for the visionary initiative undertaken by the Indian Government. This endeavor provided her with an invaluable opportunity to immerse herself in the homeland of her ancestors. She radiated enthusiasm as she shared her anticipation of exploring India’s historical treasures and immersing herself in the nation’s vibrant cultural tapestry.
Shivani Jhagroe, another participant hailing from Suriname, eloquently described India as her second home. She conveyed heartfelt appreciation for the profound insight the program has afforded her into her ancestral heritage and the opportunity to delve deeper into the essence of her roots.
The event encompassed a captivating quiz session, engaging participants in a lively exploration of G20 dynamics and the rich tapestry of Indian history. Launched on January 8th, 2014, the Know India Programme, an initiative of the Government of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, caters to the Indian diaspora within the age bracket of 18 to 30 years. This visionary program endeavors to acquaint Persons of Indian Origin youth with their heritage and the contemporary fabric of India, thereby offering them a gateway to their ancestral land and its multifaceted culture.
