Amidst spiritual fervor and devotion, the annual Machail Mata Yatra has commenced in the mesmerizing Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Enthusiastic devotees have gathered to embark on this revered pilgrimage, paying their respects at the esteemed high-altitude Machail Mata Temple dedicated to Goddess Durga, fondly known as ‘Kaali’ or ‘Chandi.’

The auspicious yatra commenced with a momentous “Pratham Pooja” at the Machail Mata Shrine, marking the beginning of a journey filled with reverence and prayers. Situated in the picturesque village of Machail, Paddar, Kishtwar, the temple’s surroundings boast breathtaking landscapes, featuring lush green rolling hills, glaciers, and tributaries of the Chenab River.

To ensure the comfort and accommodation of the pilgrims, a well-equipped ‘Yatri Bhawan’ has been established at the base camp. This facility can cater to a minimum of 2,000 devotees at an affordable charge of Rs 10 per person. In addition, chopper services have been initiated from the base camp, providing convenient transportation options for those facing difficulties in completing the pilgrimage on foot.

The Machail Mata Temple, also referred to as the Chandi Mata Shrine, holds immense significance for the devotees, and on the sacred day of the first Bhadon or Bhadoon Sankranti, a grand fair takes place outside the temple as its doors open to the faithful. This vibrant event attracts devotees from across Paddar, who gather to offer their prayers and seek blessings from the revered deity.

The Machail Yatra pilgrimage stands as the second-largest in the Jammu region, witnessing the arrival of over 50,000 devotees at the Chandi Dham Machail, showcasing the unwavering devotion and spirit of the pilgrims.

With the blessings of Goddess Durga, the Machail Mata Yatra promises to be a soul-stirring experience for the devotees, fostering a sense of unity and spirituality as they embark on this sacred journey. The initiation of additional facilities, including the Yatri Bhawan and chopper services, enhances the overall experience, making the pilgrimage accessible and comfortable for all participants.

The revered Machail Mata Temple holds a special place in the hearts of devotees, drawing them to the picturesque surroundings of Kishtwar to pay homage and seek the blessings of the divine. As the yatra progresses, it continues to be a testimony to the profound faith and devotion of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, conveyed his best wishes to the pilgrims embarking on this sacred journey, highlighting the significance of the Machail Mata Yatra in promoting spirituality, unity, and cultural heritage in the region.
