Armed Forces Tribunal to be improved

The government is taking steps to further empower the armed forces tribunal (AFT) and make it more responsive, defence minister Rajnath Singh said.

The minister called for striking the requisite balance between ‘justice delayed is justice denied’ and ‘justice hurried is justice buried’ towards lessening the burden of pendency in the country’s judicial system in general and the AFT in particular.

Law minister Kiren Rijiju said the government is tapping technology to reduce pendency in courts, in the backdrop of 4.83 crore cases pending cases in different courts in the country. The law ministry is willing to offer any help to the AFT in quick delivery of justice.
