The 131st edition of Asia’s oldest football tournament – Durand Cup will start from 16 August 2022. The tournament will feature 20 teams, all divided into four groups of five teams each.
For the first time in its history, the tournament is being held in multiple cities. West Bengal, Assam and Manipur are hosting the Durand Cup 2022. The matches will be played in Salt Lake Stadium (Kolkata, West Bengal), Naihati Stadium (Naihati, West Bengal), Kishore Bharati Stadium (Kolkata, West Bengal), Khuman Lampak Stadium (Imphal, Manipur) and Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium (Guwahati, Assam).
Durand Cup
The Durand Football Tournament, commonly known as Durand Cup, is an annual domestic football competition in India which was first held in 1888 in Shimla. Hosted by the Durand Football Tournament Society (DFTS), the tournament is the oldest existing club football tournament in Asia and third oldest in the world.
The tournament is named after its founder Sir Henry Mortimer Durand, the foreign secretary of British India from 1884 to 1894.
