BAE Systems and Larsen & Toubro Forge Transformative Partnership to Revolutionize Indian Defense

A groundbreaking collaboration between BAE Systems, a global leader in defense and security, and India’s formidable industrial powerhouse, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), is on the verge of transforming India’s defense sector. This strategic partnership seeks to introduce the renowned Articulated All-Terrain Vehicle (AATV), ‘BvS10,’ to the Indian armed forces, ushering in a new era of enhanced capabilities and fortified defense readiness under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Within this partnership, Larsen & Toubro will lead as the prime bidder for the Indian market, bolstered by the invaluable expertise of BAE Systems Hagglunds, the renowned Swedish manufacturer behind the highly successful BvS10 family of vehicles. This synergy between a global defense giant and a formidable Indian conglomerate is set to redefine the landscape of defense manufacturing in the country.

To meet the specific requirements of the Indian armed forces, BAE Systems and L&T have embarked on the mission of upgrading the BvS10, resulting in a new variant named the ‘BvS10-Sindhu.’ This innovative vehicle is meticulously designed to excel in the demanding terrains and challenging climatic conditions frequently encountered in India.

The Articulated All-Terrain Vehicle (AATV) program is committed to delivering these cutting-edge vehicles from L&T’s Armoured Systems Complex in Hazira, Gujarat. This commitment extends beyond the vehicles themselves and encompasses comprehensive integrated logistic support (ILS) to ensure the seamless operation of the BvS10-Sindhu.

The upcoming trials of the BvS10 all-terrain vehicle this month are poised to demonstrate the essential capabilities required by the Indian Army. At the heart of the BvS10-Sindhu’s design are its unparalleled mobility, adaptability, and proficiency in operating under extreme climatic conditions, positioning it as a transformative asset for the Indian armed forces.

Larsen & Toubro sees this partnership as a pivotal opportunity for its Armoured Systems business to leverage its robust manufacturing and design capabilities, further enriched by BAE Systems’ extensive experience. Additionally, this collaboration between BAE Systems and Larsen & Toubro holds the potential for broader regional impact, aligning with India’s increasing strategic significance in the region.

Notably, the BvS10 vehicle showcased at the Defense and Security Equipment International (DSEI) event in London includes a Mobile Short Range Air Defense system (MSHORAD) configuration, enhancing its versatility and effectiveness in contemporary combat scenarios.

Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, Managing Director of BAE Systems Hagglunds, and Arun Ramchandani, Executive Vice President & Head of L&T Defence, are at the forefront of this transformative partnership.
