World Sports Journalist Day is observed worldwide on July 2nd each year to commemorate the establishment of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) and to honor the remarkable work of sports journalists. This day serves as a platform to acknowledge the significant contributions made by sports media professionals in promoting sports and disseminating information to the public. It also aims to inspire aspiring individuals who aspire to pursue careers in sports journalism. Media organizations worldwide organize special events and activities to show appreciation and recognition to their sports journalists on this significant occasion.
Established in 1994, the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) has played a pivotal role in advocating for sports media rights and providing support and resources to sports journalists globally. With its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, AIPS represents 160 national associations, including the NSMA in the US. AIPS supports young sports journalists through various programs, issues identification cards for international sporting events, and recognizes excellence in sports journalism through its prestigious international awards. Led by Executive Director Dave Goren, AIPS continues to promote the values and importance of sports journalism worldwide.
On World Sports Journalist Day, the global community comes together to celebrate and honor the exceptional work of sports media professionals, highlighting their dedication in bringing the world of sports closer to the public and raising global awareness about the significance of sports in our lives.
