The Charlety Stadium in Paris witnessed an extraordinary display of talent as more than 1200 athletes from 107 nations gathered for the Para Athletics World Championships from 8 to 17 July. Among them, Ajeet Singh, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, India, showcased his exceptional prowess in the Men’s javelin throw F46 category. With a remarkable throw measuring 65.41 meters, he emerged as the champion, claiming the gold medal and breaking the previous record held by Chunliang Guo of China.
India’s outstanding performance continued to impress, with the team amassing a total of 10 medals in the competition. Sumit Antil clinched India’s first gold medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw F64 category, surpassing his own World Record with a remarkable throw of 70.83 meters. Sachin Sarjerao Khilari secured India’s second gold medal in the Men’s Shot Put F46 category, solidifying his place in the upcoming 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.
Ajeet Singh’s exceptional skills were on display once again as he triumphed in the Men’s Javelin Throw F46 Final, adding another gold medal to India’s tally. Sunder Singh Gurjar also showcased his talent, finishing fourth in the same event and securing qualification for the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
With a total of 10 medals, India achieved its best-ever performance in the World Para Athletics Championships, surpassing their previous record of nine medals in the 2019 edition held in Dubai. The Indian contingent’s remarkable achievements not only broke records but also set a new benchmark for future competitions.
