A contingent of 43 Indian Army personnel has embarked on a journey to Mongolia to participate in the 15th edition of the joint military exercise, “NOMADIC ELEPHANT-23.” This annual training event, which alternates between India and Mongolia, will take place in Ulaanbaatar from July 17th to July 31st, 2023. The objective of the exercise is to enhance positive military relations, share best practices, improve inter-operability, and foster camaraderie and friendship between the Indian and Mongolian armies. The primary focus of the exercise will be on conducting counter-terrorism operations in challenging mountainous terrain, aligning with the mandates of the United Nations.

The joint exercise involves the participation of soldiers from the Mongolian Armed Forces Unit 084 and the JAMMU AND KASHMIR LIGHT INFANTRY Regiment of the Indian Army. The Indian Army contingent arrived in Ulaanbaatar on July 16th, 2023, via an Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft. During the exercise, troops from both nations will engage in a Platoon level Field Training Exercise (FTX), which includes various training activities such as endurance training, reflex firing, room intervention, small team tactics, and rock craft training. This will provide an opportunity for the soldiers to exchange operational experiences and learn from one another.

India and Mongolia share a commitment to regional security and cooperation. The joint military exercise “NOMADIC ELEPHANT-23” will serve as a significant milestone in the defense cooperation between the Indian Army and the Mongolian Army, further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two nations.
