Indian judoka Linthoi Chanambam made history as she won the gold medal at the world cadet judo championships 2022 in the women’s -57kg category in Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Herzegovina.
The teenager from Manipur is the first Indian to win gold in the world judo championships in any category. The 16-year-old Linthoi Chanambam beat Brazilian Bianca Reis, the Pan-American junior champion, in the final by Waza-ari. Linthoi Chanambam won the National Championships in Chandigarh in November last year and also struck gold in the 63kg at the Asian Cadet and Junior Championships in Bangkok, Thailand last month.
She also won the silver medal at the 2021 Asia-Oceania Junior Championships and bronze at the 2021 Asia-Oceania Cadet Championships.
