Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) has been selected as the recipient of a substantial grant of Rs. 10 crore from NITI Aayog, marking a momentous step towards the creation of India’s inaugural Atal Incubation Centre focused on fisheries. This momentous initiative will be dedicated to cultivating research, technological advancements, and entrepreneurial ventures within the fisheries and related domains. By providing a nurturing environment for start-ups and innovative ideas, the Fisheries Atal Incubation Centre seeks to address the challenges confronting our marine ecosystem and fishing communities.
With its primary objective centered around fostering progress in the fisheries industry, the establishment of the Fisheries Atal Incubation Centre promises to play a significant role in generating employment opportunities and supporting the growth of start-ups and entrepreneurs. This center is set to serve as a focal point for innovation, inspiring and empowering individuals to create transformative technologies and solutions in the realm of fisheries.
Moreover, the Atal Incubation Centre will facilitate collaboration among academia, industry, and government, fostering knowledge exchange and driving the commercialization of research outcomes. As an autonomous public funded institution established on 20th November 2010, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies has been at the forefront of developing skilled manpower in fisheries and ocean sciences, as well as advancing teaching, training, research, and extension efforts in Kerala.
The University’s headquarters, situated in Panangad, approximately 12 km away from Kochi city, will serve as the nucleus of the upcoming Fisheries Atal Incubation Centre. Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor T.
