In a significant milestone, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently granted approval for Ashok Vaswani to take on the role of Managing Director and CEO at Kotak Mahindra Bank.
Presently, Ashok Vaswani serves as the President of Pagaya Technologies, a fintech company with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) based in the United States and Israel. His entry into Pagaya in June 2022 is a testament to his diverse expertise in both conventional and cutting-edge financial technologies.
Vaswani’s illustrious career encompasses tenures with global banking giants. Notably, he held the position of CEO at Barclays Bank, UK, where he assumed leadership of the bank’s global consumer, private, corporate, and payments divisions. During his tenure at Barclays, Vaswani played a pivotal role in the digitization of the UK retail bank and the modernization of consumer and payments services.
Before his association with Barclays, Ashok Vaswani dedicated two decades to Citigroup, where his roles included serving as the CEO of Citigroup Asia Pacific, reflecting his leadership and strategic influence across international markets.
Ashok Vaswani’s appointment as the Managing Director and CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank is for a three-year term, commencing from the date he assumes office, expected to be around January 1, 2024. Notably, Vaswani, who celebrates his 63rd birthday on December 1, is eligible for an extension, as the retirement age for Managing Directors and CEOs in private banks is set at 70.
