National e-Governance Division Organizes 40th Chief Information Security Officers’ Deep Dive Training Programme

The Cyber Surakshit Bharat initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) was conceived with a clear mission—to raise awareness about cyber-crime and enhance the capabilities of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and frontline IT officials across government departments. The objective is to ensure robust safety measures in the face of the escalating menace of cyber-attacks. The initiative emphasizes the need for organizations to fortify their digital infrastructures and equip themselves for future challenges in combating cyber threats.

Under the umbrella of the Capacity Building scheme, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) recently organized the 40th CISO Deep-Dive training program. Held from December 4th to 8th, 2023, the event saw participation from 31 professionals representing Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and New Delhi. The training took place at the Indian Institute of Public Administration in New Delhi.

Eminent dignitaries, including Shri S Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, and Shri S N Tripathi, DG-IIPA, graced the inaugural session. Shri Krishnan underscored the paramount importance of cybersecurity in the current landscape of escalating cyber-attacks. He emphasized the vulnerabilities in the digital era and highlighted the crucial role played by CISO officials in devising cybersecurity strategies, particularly for information security. Recognizing the indispensable role of CISOs in staying abreast of technological advances, he encouraged them to think innovatively and futuristically in supporting the cybersecurity efforts of their organizations. Shri Krishnan also acknowledged the Department of Telecommunication’s role in addressing challenges posed by emerging technologies like 5G and 6G.

The overarching goal of the training program is to promote awareness, enhance capacity, and empower government departments to establish a cyber-resilient ecosystem. It seeks to sensitize and orient participants toward cyber safety and security, contributing to the advancement of the Digital India program. The program aims to provide holistic information and knowledge about cybersecurity, fostering awareness, building capacities, and enabling government departments to maintain their cyber hygiene, safety, and security.

Notably, from June 2018 to December 2023, NeGD has successfully conducted 40 batches of CISO deep-dive training programs, benefiting over 1,523 CISOs and frontline IT officials. The initiative stands as a testament to the commitment to strengthening cybersecurity capabilities across the governmental spectrum.
