The Election Commission of India is marking the 14th National Voters’ Day (NVD) on January 25, 2024. The event will be celebrated nationwide to promote electoral awareness and encourage citizen participation.
Chief Guest and Dignitaries:
- The Chief Guest for the national function in New Delhi is Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble President of India.
- Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, will be the Guest of Honour.
- Heads and representatives from Election Management bodies of Maldives, Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan will also be present.
NVD 2024 Theme:
- The theme for NVD 2024 is ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For sure,’ dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the importance of voting.
Awards Presentation:
- The Hon’ble President will present the Best Electoral Practices Awards for 2023.
- State and District level officers will be honored for outstanding performance in various areas such as IT initiatives, Security Management, Election Management, Accessible Election, Electoral Roll, and voter awareness.
- Stakeholders including government departments and media organizations will receive awards for their contributions to voters’ awareness.
ECI Publication Launch:
- The Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Rajiv Kumar, will present the first copy of ‘ECI initiatives for General Elections 2024’ to the Hon’ble President.
- The publication provides an overview of initiatives ensuring free, fair, inclusive, accessible, and participatory elections.
Voter Awareness Film:
- A short film titled ‘My Vote My Duty,’ produced by ECI in collaboration with filmmaker Shri Raj Kumar Hirani, will be screened.
- The film features celebrities conveying messages about the spirit of democracy and the power of one vote.
Commemorative Stamp Release:
- To mark the 75th year of the Election Commission of India on January 25, 2024, a commemorative postage stamp themed “Inclusive Elections” will be released.
Voter Education and Awareness Campaign:
- An innovative multi-media campaign for Voter Education and Awareness for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections 2024 will be launched.
Multimedia Exhibition:
- A multimedia exhibition will showcase the grandeur of Indian elections, electoral reforms, technological advancements, and election management innovations.
National Voters’ Day Significance:
- NVD is celebrated annually on January 25 to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India, established on January 25, 1950.
- The main objective is to create electoral awareness and encourage citizen participation, especially among newly eligible young voters.
- NVD celebrations occur at the national, state, district, constituency, and polling booth levels, making it one of the largest celebrations in the country.
