The “Best Practices in Social Sector: A Compendium, 2023” was released by NITI Aayog in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme. This compendium features 75 case studies from 14 key social sectors to celebrate India’s 75 years of independence and recognize the efforts of Union Ministries and State Governments.
These case studies were collected from all States and Union Territories and 30 Ministries and Departments of the Government of India. The primary goal of this exercise was to derive lessons for the future to enhance and improve the quality of life at the grassroots level.
During the release event, NITI Aayog’s Vice Chairman, Suman Bery, stated that this publication would promote peer-to-peer learning among states, recognize innovative efforts taking place in the States, and facilitate the adoption of best practices suited to the context. Bery also emphasized that this document should be viewed as a living document and an active tool for innovation and scale-up.
NITI Aayog’s CEO, BVR Subrahmanyam, highlighted the compendium’s usefulness in replicating case studies across States and Union Territories. The Resident Representative of UNDP India, Shoko Noda, praised the compendium as an essential source for peer learning among states and other countries to learn from India’s successes.
According to NITI Aayog, the seventy-five case studies featured in this compendium demonstrate innovative, sustainable, replicable, and impactful models.
