Odisha govt. begins Backward Class survey

The Odisha government has started a survey of people from the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) belonging to 210 castes in the State to determine their social and educational status.

The survey is being conducted by the Odisha State Commission For Backward Classes (OSCBC) across 314 blocks and 114 urban local bodies.

The survey will continue till May 27 with an aim to get a clear picture of the status of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC). People have been asked to come to common service centres, PDS centres and Anganwadi centres with their ration cards and Aadhaar cards to fill up an exhaustive questionnaire.

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which is the ruling party in the State, in a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that it is imperative that detail enumeration of SEBC and OBC is to be made by Centre by inserting appropriate columns in the Census Format 2021 for identification of SEBC status of these categories of population.
