A remarkable stride towards both celebrating India’s diverse heritage of craftsmanship and fostering self-reliance, the One District One Product (ODOP) program has forged a partnership with the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) to introduce the captivating and innovative ‘ODOP Wall’.
This endeavor serves a dual purpose: showcasing the intricate and diverse artistry of India while elevating the voices of rural artisans and women entrepreneurs. By providing them with a platform to exhibit their exceptional skills and craftsmanship to a global audience, the ‘ODOP Wall’ initiative symbolizes empowerment and cultural preservation.
The launch event of the ‘ODOP Wall’ represents a significant stride towards the realization of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision. It aspires to spotlight the unparalleled uniqueness of Indian crafts on an international stage. This collaboration between the ODOP program and DAY-NRLM aims to shine a spotlight on the exceptional craftsmanship and cultural significance inherent in the products originating from various districts across India.
Rooted in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, the One District One Product (ODOP) program has been a trailblazer in promoting self-reliance and balanced regional development across the nation.
Central to its mission of fostering self-reliance, the ODOP initiative identifies, brands, and propels a singular product from each district into the limelight. This initiative spans a wide spectrum of sectors, encompassing handlooms, handicrafts, and more, encapsulating India’s rich and vibrant cultural tapestry.
Through collaborative efforts, ODOP and DAY-NRLM have identified distinct products from diverse districts. These products not only boast exceptional quality and craftsmanship but also encapsulate the essence of their geographical origin. From meticulously woven handlooms to intricately crafted handicrafts and locally cultivated agricultural produce, these items encapsulate India’s diverse cultural heritage.
A primary objective of this partnership is to direct consumers towards emporia, thereby propelling sales and enhancing the visibility of products from the Sale of Articles of Rural Artisans Society (SARAS). This strategic endeavor is anticipated to invigorate sales and cultivate a deeper appreciation for indigenous crafts. By promoting products created by rural Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and women artisans, this partnership seeks to uplift and empower these marginalized communities.
