PRITHvi VIgyan (PRITHVI) Scheme

The Union Cabinet approved the implementation of the PRITHvi VIgyan (PRITHVI) scheme by the Ministry of Earth Sciences during the period 2021-2026, with an overall budget of Rs. 4797 crores.

Components of PRITHVI Scheme

  1. Atmosphere & Climate Research-Modelling Observing Systems & Services (ACROSS)
  2. Ocean Services, Modelling Application, Resources and Technology (O-SMART)
  3. Polar Science and Cryosphere Research (PACER)
  4. Seismology and Geosciences (SAGE)
  5. Research, Education, Training and Outreach (REACHOUT)

Objectives of PRITHVI Scheme

  • Holistically addresses all components of the earth system: atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere.
  • Aims to enhance understanding of Earth System Sciences.
  • Provides reliable services for the country.

Implementation Approach

  • Research & development and operational activities under the PRITHVI scheme are conducted in an integrated manner.
  • Collaboration among various institutes under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
