Simon Stiell appointed new executive secretary of UNFCCC

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Simon Stiell, the former environment minister of Grenada, as the new executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). He will succeed Patricia Espinosa of Mexico.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change established an international environmental treaty to combat “dangerous human interference with the climate system”, in part by stabilizing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere.
