SJVN Limited, a leading public sector undertaking in the power sector, has been bestowed with the distinguished 1st Prize in the Swachhta Pakhwada Awards 2023 by the Ministry of Power. The Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of SJVN, NL Sharma, was honored to receive the award from Pankaj Agarwal, the Secretary of the Ministry of Power, at a ceremony held in New Delhi.
The Swachhta Pakhwada Awards evaluate public sector undertakings based on their initiatives and achievements in raising awareness about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) among the public. SJVN secured the top position in this year’s awards, a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental sustainability. The second and third prizes were awarded to Power Grid and PFC, respectively.
The success of SJVN in clinching the 1st Prize can be attributed to its comprehensive action plan, which encompassed a wide range of activities. These initiatives included extensive tree plantation drives, awareness camps to educate the public, cleanliness drives in various areas, special campaigns promoting the use of eco-friendly materials, installation of solid waste disposal machines and dustbins in public spaces, awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene, and the installation of sanitary pad incinerators in government educational institutions for girls. Moreover, the company actively distributed sanitation and personal hygiene materials within local communities.
In a remarkable collaboration, SJVN joined hands with the Municipal Corporation Shimla and Red Cross Society to introduce an innovative Empty Milk Pouch Collection Scheme. This initiative was implemented across all Municipal Wards of Shimla, as well as in the Municipal Wards surrounding SJVN Projects in Himachal Pradesh and the associated Panchayats. The scheme aimed to promote waste management and recycling by collecting empty milk pouches. To further raise public awareness, SJVN organized camps and workshops focused on waste segregation, vermi-composting, and the reuse of wastewater for agricultural purposes.
