Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said Smriti Van is a tribute to the lost lives and the remarkable fighting spirit of the people of Kutch.

Smriti Van is India’s first earthquake memorial. He said that a glimpse of the suffering of Kutch is reflected in the memorial as names of more than 12,000 people who lost their lives in the devastating earthquake of 2001, are engraved here.

“Smruti Van ” is developed atop Bhujiyo hill in 175 acres at the cost of Rs. 375 crores which has many galleries including earthquake simulator which gives real like experience of earthquake tremors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also virtually dedicated a “Veer Baldik Memorial” built up at Anjar town to pay tribute to those 185 children and 20 teachers who were buried alive in the rubble when a killer earthquake struck on January, 26. 2001.
