Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal addressed the press to highlight the significant achievements of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in the first 100 days of the new government. He emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the ease of living for citizens and providing a dignified way of life.
Housing Initiatives
To address the basic necessity of housing, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, introduced the slogan “Housing for All.” On June 10, 2024, the Union Cabinet resolved to provide assistance to 3 crore additional rural and urban households for house construction.
PMAY-U 2.0 Initiative
In line with the Prime Minister’s vision, the PMAY-U 2.0 program aims to invest 10 lakh crore to meet the housing needs of 1 crore families, ensuring improved quality of life for all citizens.
Transportation Development
The Union Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance urban transportation. In the first 100 days, three metro projects worth 31,000 crores have been approved, including:
- Bengaluru Metro Phase-3
- Thane Internal Ring Road Metro Project
- Southward Extension of Pune Metro Rail Project
Water Management Strategies
Shri Manohar Lal emphasized the government’s focus on water management, including recycling and processing of water in both rural and urban areas. He announced the approval of a new scheme, Jal Hi AMRIT, aimed at incentivizing States and Union Territories (UTs) to efficiently manage used water treatment plants (UWTPs/STPs).
AMRUT 2.0 Projects
Under the AMRUT 2.0 initiative, the following projects have been approved as part of the 100-day achievement:
- 68 projects worth INR 3,020 crore
- 41 projects worth INR 3,805 crore
These projects will be executed across various states, including Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Cumulatively, 263 projects worth INR 9,352 crore will be inaugurated or laid as foundations within the 100 days.
Cleanliness Campaigns
Regarding the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 Campaign, the Union Minister reported that around 7.5 lakh Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) have been registered on the portals, with approximately 86% already cleaned.
