Dr. Manoj Soni, a prominent figure in Indian governance, has assumed the role of UPSC Chairman, playing a pivotal role in recruiting top-level government officers. Born on February 17, 1965, in Mumbai, India, Dr. Manoj Soni’s early years were marked by a strong academic inclination that eventually propelled him towards a distinguished career in both academia and public service.

Dr. Soni’s academic journey has been illustrious, with a specialization in political science and international relations. Before becoming UPSC Chairman, he served as a professor in international relations at Sardar Patel University (SPU), Vallabh Vidhyanagar, imparting knowledge and wisdom to future leaders.

Throughout his career, Dr. Manoj Soni has held various leadership positions that have molded his path towards the challenging role of leading UPSC. Some noteworthy roles include serving as Vice-Chancellor at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU) and Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU Baroda), contributing significantly to the growth and development of these prestigious institutions.

In addition to these roles, Dr. Soni has been actively involved in board memberships of several higher education and public administration institutions, influencing their policies and directions with his insights and expertise.

In 2015, he received the World Education Congress Global Award for distance learning leadership from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in London, United Kingdom, acknowledging his outstanding leadership in the field of distance education.

Dr. Soni’s journey to becoming UPSC Chairman commenced on June 28, 2017, when he joined the Commission. On April 5, 2022, he assumed the role of UPSC Chairman, succeeding his predecessor, Pradeep Kumar Joshi. His appointment serves as a testament to his unwavering dedication, profound knowledge, and exceptional leadership qualities in the realm of Indian governance.
