Russia stops sending information about missile tests to US

A senior Russian diplomat has said that Moscow will no longer inform the US about its missile tests. Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow has halted all information exchanges with Washington after previously suspending its participation in the last remaining nuclear arms pact with the US.

World Bank approves $108 million loan to Assam to improve disaster preparedness and flood forecasting

The Eecutive Board of Directors of the World Bank has approved a $108 million loan to improve disaster preparedness and enhance flood forecasting in Assam, a state which faces serious floods almost every year.  The project will benefit around six million people and is part of a larger $500 million investment programme for Assam, the bank said in a statement.

Indian government forms committee to explore pension reforms

The Indian government has formed a committee led by finance secretary TV Somanathan to explore ways to address concerns raised by government employees over the National Pension System (NPS). The committee aims to find a middle ground between the fiscally imprudent old pension system (OPS) and the reform-oriented NPS. The committee will develop a strategy that meets the requirements of government employees while also ensuring financial responsibility to safeguard the interests of the general public. The new approach will apply to both the central and state governments.
