The Economic Advisory Council to Prime Minister (EAC-PM) along with Institute for Competitiveness and Social Progress Imperative released the Social Progress Index (SPI) for States and Districts of India as mandated by the EAC-PM.Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Goa stand out as the best-performing States in the index. The top three performing districts are Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, Solan in Himachal Pradesh, and Aizawl in Mizoram.

The two companies, along with Saudi Telecommunication Company, will bring the world’s longest subsea cable system 2Africa Pearls to India, at Airtel’s landing station in Mumbai.

India witnesses significant decline in MMR from 130 in 2014-16 to 97 per lakh live births in 2018-20

India has witnessed a significant decline in the Maternal Mortality Ratio, MMR  from 130 in 2014-16 to 97 per lakh live births in 2018-20.  As per the Special Bulletin released by the Registrar General of India, the MMR has improved further by a spectacular six points and now stands at 97 per lakh live births. The MMR  is defined as the number of maternal deaths during a given time period per one lakh live births.

Vistara airlines will be merged with Tata-owned Air India by March 2024. In a press release Singapore Airlines and Tata Sons today said that they have agreed to merge Air India and Vistara by March 2024, subject to regulatory approvals. Singapore Airlines will invest 250 million Dollars or Rupees 2,000 crore into Air India as soon as this integration is completed.

India to have ‘tilting trains’ by 2026 to help maintain speed on curves

The Indian Railways plans to introduce ‘tilting trains’ by 2026 with an aim to maintain higher speed on curvy stretches, railways officials said. According to the officials, 100 new units of the semi-high speed Vande Bharat trains are being manufactured using this technology.Around 100 Vande Bharat trains will be equipped with this technology by 2024. These trains with sleeper coaches will be operational by the first quarter of 2024.
