The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful launch of the Aditya L1 mission on September 2, 2023, at 11:50 AM IST from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India. This groundbreaking mission, named after the Hindu god of the Sun, Aditya, marks India's inaugural dedicated solar mission. The Aditya L1 spacecraft, weighing 1.5 tons and equipped with seven advanced payloads, aims to explore the Sun's atmosphere, including the chromosphere and corona, as well as the solar wind's interaction with Earth's atmosphere. Positioned in a halo orbit around the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 1 (L1), approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, this mission is expected to provide invaluable data for five years, shedding light on the Sun's behavior and its impact on our planet.
