World Press Freedom Day is observed every year on May 3 to bring attention to the state of press freedom around the world, as well as the responsibilities and risks associated with journalism. The theme for this year’s event is “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of Expression as a Driver for All Other Human Rights”.
The World Bank has agreed to provide 2.25 billion dollars to Bangladesh to support several growth-oriented projects, regional connectivity, and disaster preparedness. The agreement was signed in Washington to commemorate the 50-year partnership between the World Bank and Bangladesh. This financial agreement comprises support for five projects in Bangladesh.

The US and South Korea have reached a landmark agreement to counter the nuclear threat posed by North Korea. The Genome India Project is an initiative backed by the Indian government’s Department of Biotechnology (DBT) to sequence 10,000 Indian human genomes and create a database. Mongolia’s first oil refinery, built and funded with Indian assistance, will be completed by 2025, said the country’s Ambassador Dambajav Ganbold. Ministry of Jal Shakti has conducted the first-ever census of water bodies across the nation. The census provides a comprehensive inventory of India’s water resources, including natural and man-made water bodies like ponds and lakes. In the census, over 24.24 lakh water bodies have been enumerated in the country out of which more than 23 lakh water bodies are in rural areas and nearly 69,000 are in urban areas.

Centre launched over 250 network towers to provide 4G mobile connectivity in border areas of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday. The 254 towers will provide 4G coverage in uncovered villages of the state, thereby bringing digital connectivity to 336 villages, including several areas which have remained unconnected since Independence.
