Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, the Centre’s flagship programme for women’s empowerment, which focuses on education of girl child and improving sex ratio, will now be extended across the country, according to guidelines issued by the Women and Child Development (WCD) Ministry.The programme is operational in 405 districts at present. The ministry published comprehensive guidelines for Mission Shakti — the guidelines are applicable from April.

Syngenta India announced a launch of Biodiversity Sensor Project, a biodiversity monitoring technology in association with IIT Ropar.Syngenta also flagged off India’s first Drone Yatra, that will travel 10,000 kms to create awareness on drone spraying among 10,000 farmers. The Yatra will travel to 13 states to demonstrate and educate farmers on use of drones.

The National Road Transport Institute in Gujarat will be upgraded to a central university and will be known as the Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya.The cabinet has also approved the setting up of the university. The Gati Shakti University will become the second central university in the state following the Central University of Gujarat.

The Department of Consumer Affairs has set up a committee to develop a comprehensive framework on the right to repair. The aim of the framework is to empower consumers and product buyers in the local market and harmonize trade between the original equipment manufacturers and the third-party buyers and sellers. Its aim is also to emphasize developing sustainable consumption of products and reduction in e-waste.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has introduced the Paper Import Monitoring System (PIMS) by amending the import policy of major paper products from ‘free’ to ‘free subject to compulsory registration under PIMS’.The new policy will come into effect on October 1, 2022.  However, the online facility of registration will be available from July 15, 2022.

The Chhattisgarh Government has received an in-principle nod from the Centre to go ahead with a $300 million (approximately ₹2,100 crore) school education project the State is negotiating with the World Bank. The World Bank has been associated with India’s school education system since 1994, according to its website. One of its more recent projects, inked in 2021, is the $500 million Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States Program (STARS) to improve the quality and governance of school education in six Indian States. That list, however, does not include Chhattisgarh.

India joined the Interpol’s international child sexual exploitation (ICSE) database which will allow it to draw links between victims, abusers and crime scene using audio-visual data.The CBI, which is India’s nodal agency for Interpol matters, joined the database making India the 68th country to connect to it.

The World Bank Board of Executive Directors approved two complementary loans of $500 million each to support and enhance India’s health sector. The Maharashtra government’s Energy department on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Adani Green Energy Group Ltd (AGEL) to generate 11000 MW green power in the next five years.It would entail an investment of Rs 60,000 crore and provide employment to 30,000 persons, a statement from the government said.

The Centre has banned the use of ‘single-use plastic’ from July 1.
